The Records Section of the Richmond Police Department is the repository for all police documents, reports, and electronic records management. Traffic citations and misdemeanor investigations are prepared and forwarded to the court from the Records Section. Felony reports are routed to the appropriate Investigative Services Unit for follow-up investigation.
Primary duties also include data entry and retrieval from state and national law enforcement information data bases as well as data entry support to the adjacent local police agency of El Cerrito. The information entered into the data base is used by Crime Analysis, Command Staff, all RPD personnel, the community, and other law enforcement agency personnel.
The Records Section is staffed and operational 24/7 including holidays. Much of the time-sensitive work is completed by the Records Specialists who also respond to phone calls and assist citizens with lobby service at the counter from 7:00am to 8:00pm daily. Some of our services include:
Live scan printing requires a request form from your employer or other entity. Picture ID is required at the time of printing. A valid CA driver's license, CA State ID, Military Identification Card, Green Card, Immigration Card, Alien Registration Card, or Valid Out-of State Driver’s license. Appointments are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

Adult/Juvenile Arrest Record Sealing Requests
To obtain copies of police reports you can contact the Records Section, to confirm that the report is ready and releasable, by calling (510) 620-6675. Reports are usually ready for pick up within 7 to 10 days. Certain reports may not be released if the case is under investigation or there will be a danger to any individual listed on the report. No juvenile information will be given out.

If you need to make a police report at the station the Records Specialists will contact the Communications Center to have an officer respond to the station. Reports taken in the police department lobby are prioritized and dispatched by the Communications Center as officers become available.
